Adolph Kuhn, Sr.--American Hero and Survivor of the Attack on Pearl Harbor
I first met Adolph, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, in December, 2011 at Pearl Harbor. The occasion was the 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Adolph stood out. Although he was 90 years-old at that time, at 6 feet, 5 inches, he still towered over most of the people around him.Adolph was one of the speakers at the special commemoration event. In my opinion--shared by many others--he was the most interesting and engaging speaker at the event. He talked about the bombing and the dying all around him and about the many times that he should or could have been killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor--and about his many Guardian Angels who are responsible for his good health today.Adolph has written a book about his experience called Adolph Kuhn: An American Journey. At age 18, when he tried to enlist in the Navy, he was too tall by a fraction of an inch over the Navy's maximum height restrictions . The examining doctor "made a mistake" and jotted down Adolph's revised height details that would change his life forever. After the 70th Anniversary Commemoration, I called Adolph on his 91st and 92nd birthdays; and I talked to him again a few days ago . He is still as sharp and as energetic as ever. Whenever he has the opportunity, he gives talks at schools to share lessons from his life. You can see him in this video shot in 2010, vvdailypress.com/articles/pearl-24682-pens-survivor.html
Adolph, you are an American Hero, and we salute you.
